Our Story

Rooted in Nature, Designed for Life.

Our story is grounded in a deep love for design and nature. What began as a shared passion grew into a practice dedicated to creating spaces that are both beautiful and deeply livable. We believe outdoor spaces should feel as intentional as the homes they surround, places that support well-being, invite connection, and evolve gracefully with time. Every project is a reflection of thoughtful collaboration, and lasting respect for nature.

We’ve always believed that great design begins with how a space makes you feel.

With a background in landscape construction and a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Guelph, Daniel spent years building outdoor spaces that were not only functional but deeply connected to the natural environment.

Dancor Landscapes (Daniel's Design-Build company) gave him the foundation to understand the details, how to bring ideas to life with structure, durability, and craftsmanship.

At the same time, Madison was immersed in the world of interior design. Her work focused on creating sustainable interiors that were warm, intentional, and deeply personal.  She understood how thoughtful design could transform the way people live in and connect with their homes.

As our paths in design evolved, it became clear that there was something special about the way our two worlds came together. We started to imagine spaces that flowed seamlessly from indoors to out, where natural materials, layered textures, and quiet moments of beauty could carry through every corner of a property.

That vision became Moss and Oak Design Studio.

Moss and Oak is more than just pretty spaces. It’s about creating environments that feel grounded, welcoming, and deeply considered. We bring together the structure and practicality of landscape architecture with the softness and soul of interior design, crafting outdoor environments that feel like an extension of home.

Our approach is rooted in years of experience, a deep appreciation for nature, and a genuine love for the creative process. We care about the details. We care about the people we design for. Most of all, we care about creating places that feel good to be in, now and for years to come.

Madison Kohut

Designer & Co Founder

Madison built her interior design studio from a genuine love of nature and a commitment to sustainable design. By leading projects from early concept through completion, she developed a deep, holistic understanding of how spaces can enhance daily life. Her mission is to create interiors that feel beautiful, nurturing, and environmentally responsible.

From that shared vision, Moss & Oak was born. After working together so naturally, it became clear we were stronger as a team. So we chose to combine our talents into one studio.

Our Approach

At Moss & Oak, we believe that the most inspiring spaces are rooted in both beauty and purpose.

Our approach blends the structure and precision of landscape architecture with the warmth and intention of interior design, creating seamless connections between the built environment and the natural world. We design from the ground up, considering not just how a space will look, but how it will feel, function, and evolve over time.

We design with materials and textures that are timeless and grounded, creating spaces that encourage slower living and meaningful connection. We begin with the land itself, then shape each project around movement, balance, and the way people naturally use and experience their space.

Our philosophy is simple:
Design with integrity. Build with care. Create spaces that support well-being, indoors and out.
